The Nelson Mazda dealership in Antioch will relocate to a new location in Murfreesboro that should open next summer.
Chad Custer, managing partner and chief operating officer of Nelson Auto Group, said that ownership group is exploring future options for the roughly three-acre Antioch site at 5300 Mt. View Road.
“The question right now is what manufacturer would go in that location,” he said, raising the possibility of another dealership occupying the Antioch space. “We have a long-term commitment to the property here in Antioch.”

For nearly two decades, Nelson Mazda has sold Mazda and pre-owned cars from the Antioch location. It would be the latest longtime business to leave the area, which has been adding hundreds of jobs by employers such as Bridgestone Americas, with businesses such as Swedish furniture maker IKEA and Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria also planning locations in that southeastern Davidson County neighborhood.
Two months ago, construction began on the 24,796-square-foot new Nelson Mazda Murfreeboro dealership that’s rising at the corner of Fortress and John R. Rice boulevards. It will sit next door to Chevy of Murfreesboro in what has become a car dealer district in The Gateway area of that city.
Nelson Auto Group also owns Nelson Mazda Cool Springs, which opened in Franklin four years ago.
In Nashville, a project anchored by a 41,500 square feet Whole Foods grocery store will soon start to rise on the former Nelson Mazda dealership site at downtown’s 12th and Broadway. That project by Houston-based Endeavor Real Estate Group will also include 313 luxury apartments, 66,000 square feet of office and another 4,900 square feet of retail space.
