Brentwood Motorcyclist Dies In Hwy 160 Crash Near Antioch: CHP

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist died Saturday night near Antioch when his motorcycle hit a curb and he was ejected into traffic on state Highway 160, California Highway Patrol officials said. CHP officials were told of a collision at 8:28 p.m. on southbound Highway 160 at the Wilbur Avenue on-ramp where Brentwood man Mark McGoveran, 54, died when he was hit by a vehicle.

It appears McGoveran was driving on the Wilbur Avenue on-ramp entering Highway 160 when he crossed the gore point, a triangular area that separates the on-ramp from the freeway. He then hit a curb and was ejected, according to the CHP.

McGoveran was then hit by a vehicle, as was his motorcycle. The vehicles involved in each collision stopped and cooperated with officers.

CHP officials said several motorcyclists seen traveling with McGoveran did not stop and have not been located.

Whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision is still be determined.

Anyone who saw the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to call CHP Officer T. Johnson at 925- 646-4980.
